Wadada Means Love

‘Wadada’ is the Amharic word for ‘love’, and a core tenet of the brand. Made from love, Wadada Movement’s collections display a seamless blend of mystery, sumptuous bohemian details and careful construction. This heady combination has resulted in the brand’s evolution from small Trinidadian fashion label, into – indeed – a Caribbean lifestyle.

Wadada Lifestyle

Wadada Lifestyle

Over the last five years Wadada Movement has created a truly warm and engaging lifestyle brand for themselves. In this collection they wanted to take the opportunity to showcase their unique island style, which included paring crop tops with maxi skirts. In the Wadada Lifestyle collection we observe the flawless execution of their staple skirts; the A-line, the gathered and the full skirt. The stretch and non-stretch cottons mixed with corduroy and the culturally themed prints that the sisters choose raised them to another level of greatness.

Revolution

Revolution

The twin’s fifth collection entitled Revolution is definitely their most militant designs to date. In this collection the sisters channelled their rebel side to build a collection that took them out of their box. Using stretch cotton and sheer black lace the sisters shocked audiences with some of provocative pieces, but kept the balance between the fabrics setting a president for what sexy militancy should look like.

African Princess

African Princess

The Wadada twin sisters chose to explore their love for the African continent, and it’s diasporas in their debut collection because it was important for them to emerge from the ‘roots’ and grow. Through their collection they take you on a journey of survival retelling the story of an African princess through textiles and colour. The collection is a culmination of cotton and pique fabric all carefully choose to showcase looks that best connects the story to the designs.

Summer Love

Summer Love

The chilly winds have passed, the sun stays with us longer, and the grass is beautifully green. The memories of summers gone, and thoughts of summers to come. To lay in the fields surrounded by life, this is what Summer Love is about. The warmth of the colours, the elegance of the aesthetics, and the flow of the satin-voile breathes life into Wadada Movement’s third collection.

Nous Sommes

Nous Sommes

After setting the stage with their African Princess collection, the Wadada sisters designed their second collection much more personal. In year two the sisters discovers that the world isn’t as fair and pleasant as they expected. It became clear that they must stay true to themselves. Nous Sommes when translated reads “We Are” is the perfect title for this collection because the sisters wanted to create a collection that expressed their personal style. Stretch-twill, natural silks and quality denim were chosen to curate this simple, yet fashionably tailored collection.

She's Royal

She's Royal

The forth collection designed by the Wadada sisters brings back the concept of royalty. While living a Rastafarian lifestyle, the sisters were drawn to a Queen’s state of mind. For them this includes but is not limited to their dress code, an attire suitable for a Queen. Through the progression of society many woman have lost connection with their intuition and their femininity. Using an array of stretch cotton, satin and natural silks the sisters put together a collection that exudes royalty and grace.

Wadada Movement Culture & Visionaries

wadada_movement_biography1

Over the years, Wadada Movement has certainly made a name for itself as one of the Caribbean’s most recognizable fashion brands.

Ayanna and Asha Diaz, twin sisters from the twin-island Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, launched the label in 2010 and showed their first collection of tailored, sweeping skirts and dresses, infused with dollops of ethnic prints. Although never formally educated in fashion, both sisters have a great love for expressing who they are through their sense of fashion and style.

Born and raised in the Caribbean, these sisters have never conformed to the what’s hot in fashion. The look they have created for themselves is a fusion of cultured royalty and bohemian chic, which was influenced by their travels throughout the Caribbean, Europe and Africa.

With each collection, Wadada Movement has moved from strength to strength, consistently demonstrating a unique design aesthetic that hinges on the thoughtful balance between conservative elegance and daring modernity. From the conception, the twins wanted to create a line of female clothing that reflected their personalities and their somewhat “out-of-the-box” style.

Wadada Movement is the go-to label for some of the Caribbean’s major performing artistes, editors and stylists. The brand continues to champion an international outlook and extends its brand capital daily with an inspirational, down-to-earth, tone of voice within its digital marketing activities.

MISSION

Wadada Movement is a brand that focuses on collections of conservatively fashionable female clothing. Each piece is designed to accentuate the female’s natural confidence, while being made from love.

VISION

In the years to come Wadada Movement will be recognized as one of the Caribbean’s leading brands of female clothing. We will achieve this by maintaining a humble attitude and a cultured mind, never forgetting that every piece is designed for the body and soul.
